Mr Ahmad is one of only few certified robotic colorectal surgeons in the UK and offers robotic surgery to selected patients with rectal cancer or rectal prolapse.
What is Robotic Surgery?
A very small 3D camera and surgical instruments are introduced inside the patient's abdomen through tiny incisions just as in conventional keyhole surgery. The camera provides the surgeon with a magnified 360 degree view of the operative field. The arms of the robot are attached to the instruments which are controlled by the surgeon remotely from a console.
The potential benefits are better functional outcomes because of the higher definition of the picture and greater flexibility of the robotic instruments.
